Here is a Friday edition of Thinking Out Loud featuring a conversation between co-host Lynne Lupien and her two cobloggers at leftinlowell.com, Mimi and Kristin, for a chat about what’s happening around the city. The city has a new budget, which served as the main topic of conversation. Unfortunately, due to absent-mindedness, I only recorded the last 12 minutes of the conversation. Co-host Charlotte Crockford may provide a more complete recording to replace this one next week.

Hodgeheg this week is at least partly a tribute to longtime Quaker sustainability champion Bob Hillegass of Greenfield NH, who died on Monday. In his honor, we played a series by Brian Swimme called “Planetary Mindshift - The New Story” (http://www.planetarymindshift.com/), interwoven with relevant music. We ended the show with a selection of livelier music, some of it funny, some of it positive, and some of it heartbreakingly beautiful.

With mental health issues facing hundreds of thousands of returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, Moving a Nation to Care brings desperately needed attention to the devastating hidden costs of war. Anyone who wants to ’support the troops’ should read this important book. – Paul Rieckhoff, author of Chasing Ghosts and executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA)
